UBS and Credit Suisse publish their valuations of Swiss pension funds

Dear customers,

Here’s a market analysis of the leaders in Global Custody.

This analysis makes it possible to assess Swiss pension funds, the second pillar of the Swiss pension system, on a broad and therefore representative basis.

During the quarter under review, the Crédit Suisse Swiss pension fund index gained 7.3 points, or 3.9%.

It has therefore risen by 4.1% since the beginning of the year. The Crédit Suisse index of Swiss pension funds (since January 1, 2000) shows an annualized return of 3.2% as at December 31, 2020, while the annualized BVG minimum remuneration stands at 2.2%.

The pension funds in the UBS sample achieved a return of 3.8% in 2020. UBS specifies that the average return for the month of December was very beneficial, with a rate of 1.39% after fees.

In December, as for the year as a whole, equities were the main contributors to positive performance. Interest rates changed little in December, so this was mainly a currency effect. Last year, real estate played a decisive role in positive performance.
