The Commission de haute surveillance de la prévoyance professionnelle’s (CHS PP) projections for the financial situation of Swiss pension funds at the end of June 2021 show that the coverage ratios of pension funds have developed very well in the first half of this year.
The average coverage rate was 113.5% at the end of 2020, despite uncertainties on the capital markets due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This positive trend continued in the first half of 2021, with the average coverage rate rising to 119.9% at the end of June.
On a capital-weighted basis, only 0.6% of pension funds are currently overdrawn.
In all, data from 1,345 pension funds, with total assets of CHF 798 billion, are included in these projections.
As a reminder, the degree of coverage represents the reserve held by the Foundation in relation to the technical rate set by the Foundation Board in agreement with the occupational pension expert.
