The number of infections is stagnating at a very high level, and new, more contagious variants of the virus pose the threat of a rapid rise. In order to prevent the spread of the new variants, the Federal Council is making every effort to sharply reduce contact through new measures.
The Federal Council has therefore decided to extend the national measures taken on December 11 and 18, 2020 by five weeks, until February 28, 2021.
It has also introduced new measures to drastically reduce contacts. These will come into force on January 18 at 0:00 a.m. and will be valid until February 28, 2021. They include the obligation to work from home, the closure of stores, additional restrictions on gatherings and private events, increased protection for vulnerable people and more extensive measures in the workplace.
