Focus on the occupational pension situation of self-employed workers

The Swiss Federal Council recently approved a report analyzing the situation of self-employed workers in terms of occupational benefits.

At present, they are under no obligation to take out insurance, so they run the risk of not building up sufficient pension provision once they retire, and having to resort to supplementary benefits.

With costs rising sharply in this area, it was important that studies be carried out to assess the situation.

This shows that it will be difficult to make it compulsory for the self-employed to set up an occupational pension scheme, particularly from the point of view of membership control and the impoverishment of self-employed people on low incomes. Adequate pension provision is built up over years of activity, on the basis of sufficient income.

Although compulsory affiliation is complicated in terms of verification, possibilities do exist and are generally very interesting in comparison with the3rd pillar. Indeed, greater tax optimization, AVS deductions, family protection and lower risk costs than the3rd pillar are all points that need to be addressed.
